A NEGLECTED SOCIAL PHENOMENON
People don’t realize how excess phone use, especially unhealthy social media use disrupts all the meaningful moments in daily life. We spend average 3 hours on our phone scrolling 300 feet every day, which adds up to 70 miles if you are around 35 years old now.
The mindless consumption has been linked to increased stress, anxiety, and depression. Even the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, claimed that social media is bad if we spending a lot of time passively consuming information - reading but not interacting with people.
THE STRATEGY: The Art Of Slow Living.
Living your life with intention and mindfulness.
Cooperate with Headspace, which provides guided meditation sessions and mindfulness training, to launch “The Art Of Slow Scrolling”.
1. Headspace App
Users of Headspace will be kindly reminded to slow their scroll on phone, spending at least 4 seconds for each post.
Icons and info for “fastest scrolling speed” and “slowest scrolling speed” will be added to Headspace user’s homepage. They can remind people to keep eyes on their mindless scrolling.
2. Headspace Instagram
Headspace will comment on trending topics. The first 100 people to find the coupon code in the comments of this post will get their next month of Headspace for free. Comment will be placed on trending topics / threads / hashtags.
3. Add an Instagram menu for iPhone
Phone vibrates and the slow-your-scroll-notification appears to help people identify their passive consumption on Instagram.
4. Miniature pamphlets
Miniature pamphlets will be placed in the seat backs of airplanes. These will not only teach readers about social media mindfulness, but also lead them to free wifi on all social media apps, allowing them to practice what they’ve just learned while they’re bored in the sky.
